Axiom #4: The Myth of the Universal Student

January 23, 2023
“Students with greater financial means and higher academic achievement will travel further and often pay more for educational experiences.

Reversely, students with few means and weak academic achievement will stay close to home for more limited educational experiences.”
— Ian Symmonds

Why do some students travel far away from home, leaving the region, to attend a college, university, boarding school or speciality educational experience? And, why do other students stay local and attend a more limited array of options? It turns out that academic achievement and financial means play a large role in distance traveled to attend schools and colleges. Simply said, stronger students with greater financial capacity travel further from home.
